Michele B. Montgomery
My work draws from the domestic landscape to share common ground with the viewer. The imagery is not abstract but comes directly from everyday life. The interplay of image, form and materials is central to my approach, allowing me to construct complex webs of meaning by evoking history, culture and science through visual language. The choices I make offer paradoxical relationships between the domestic image and its new habit. It is important for the work to support many interpretations. For example, my draped figures juxtapose neo-classical sculpture and the vernacular wire hanger. This recycling of the ordinary to the [extra]ordinary provides an opportunity to see with a new perspective.
