Grant Adams

My work explores dark humor, irony, and curiosity as tools for navigating modern life. I am drawn to moments where beauty and horror coexist—where something is visually playful while simultaneously carrying a sense of unease. Humor becomes a survival strategy, a way to disarm fear and invite viewers into difficult conversations about identity, environment, consumption, power, and the fragile systems we depend on.

My work often uses self-portraiture as a laboratory for identity construction. By staging myself inside exaggerated fictional realities, I examine how cultural narratives are performed rather than inherited. Humor and absurdity function as entry points—inviting viewers to laugh before they realize they are implicated in the systems being questioned.

Grant Adams was born in 1977 in Seymour, Indiana. He earned a BFA in Marketing in 2004 and went on to study Arts Administration at Southern Utah University, graduating with an MFA in 2010.

Since 2011 he has curated art collections for corporate clients across the country. Working with a diverse community of artists in a variety of styles and mediums has affected his own art practice, resulting in an eclectic mix of materials and subject matter found in his work.

Recent works are examinations of the individual and collective society, and seek to find harmony in opposing forces.

Grant lives and works in Lakewood, Colorado.
